I was very excited to try Sandringham Golf Course, now known as Sandy Golf Links.

Sandringham Golf Course – A 9 and an 18 Hole Review
I had started playing golf again in early winter so I was keen to try a sandbelt course. After trudging around soft and wet fairways, I was hoping for some roll and run from my drives and long irons.
It had been raining for weeks in Melbourne, but after I saw an interview with Geoff Ogilvy about Sandy Golf Links I was sold. I booked a nine hole round for the next day.
And right from the first hole I played off, Sandringham Golf Course – Sandy Golf Links did not disappoint me!
Let me set the scene…
I was running late for my 11:10am booking and got to the tenth tee. I was told to start off the back 9, just as the third player from my group had tee’d off.
Two had hooked to the left, one to the right in the long bunker and now it was my turn.
A conservative, but dead straight drive down the middle… phew… that was followed up by a five iron off the deck that rolled… and rolled and rolled on to the green!
The 11th was a long (for me) par three that had me taking a five iron off the tee.
My drive came up a little short, but once again I got the roll on to the green. Two greens in regulation on my first time to Sandringham Golf Course – Sandy Golf Links. Lovin this golf course!
Sandringham Golf Course – I’ll be back again!
The ability of the course to handle that amount of water. That was the main part of the course that hed me convinced it was one of the best public courses to play. The fact that the greens are managed by Royal Melbourne staff is a bonus!
A true sand belt course as you can see by the image above.
That along with the thick tea tree rough, you could be forgiven for thinking you have been dropped in to Royal Melbourne itself.
