A ‘one-stop-shop’ for golfers, Yarra Bend Golf is a picturesque eighteen hole public golf course in park land adjacent to the Yarra River.
Along with the golf course, Yarra Bend Golf has a pro-shop, driving range, on-site coaching and even two 18 hole mini golf courses!
I have only played at Yarra Bend Golf twice so far. First time was 18 holes and the second was a nine hole round on that ‘suprisingly bright winters day’.

Yarra Bend Golf Course – An 18 Hole Review
Both times I have played at Yarra Bend Golf course were recently in winter, but quite contrasting days.
The last time I played at Yarra Bend Golf was a nine hole round and it was on a gorgeous Melbourne winters day. Sun was shining and the course was mint. Both the weather and the game I played made me like golf again! haha.
The week prior to my 18 hole game there was a lot of rain in Melbourne so i’ll review how the course handled the weather as well as a few of my favourite holes.
The clubhouse, carpark and central part of the course sits on a ridge with the external holes falling dramatically down to the Yarra River. This made the central flatter holes (like the 2nd, 3rd and 8th holes) succeptible to holding water. Hence, less run from the drives and fairway shots.
Yarra Bend Golf – Opening Hole 1 Par 3
The second golf course I have been to where the opeing hole is a Par 3 (first being Royal Park).
Nothing like a bit of added pressure to start a round!
Yarra Bend Golf – Favourite Hole Combo
The par 5 fourth hole followed up by the par 3 fifth is a great couple of holes to play back-to-back.
The fourth is a dogleg left downhill so if you drive to the right spot you get a bit of added roll to add to your total length of drive.
The following par 3 fifth hole at 160 metres is uphill and tricky for me as i’m not a long hitter.
Yarra Bend Golf – 2nd Favourite Hole Combo
The par 4 sixteenth and the par 3 seventeenth are another couple of great looking and playing holes.
From the sixteenth tee you drive uphill. Then mid fairway the topography drops away towards the hole.
Try and land your tee shot top right for a better angle towards the hole.
This is the hole I felt like I broke my wrists. I was getting tired, teed off well to the left. Had an above my feet lie and chunked the shot big time!
The following par 3 seventeenth is interesting firstly in the walk to the tee and secondly with the narrow shot to an oddly shaped green.
